Billboards get our advertising messages out, but we must dispose of 672 square feet of vinyl when they come down. Instead of having them go to a landfill, Providence’s marketing and communications department is working with us, to recycle billboards into reusable items, including grocery, messenger and insulated cooler bags.
On a trial basis, the bags are being sold at the gift shop at Providence Portland Medical Center, with proceeds going to Providence Medical Foundations. Each bag is made from a section of a billboard ad for Providence Cancer Center, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute, Providence Brain Institute or Providence Health Plan. They come in solid colors, or may have a hand or even part of a face on them. Each one is unique.
